Trip Overview

The Langtang Valley Trek begins with an overland journey to Syabrubesi, a small settlement with shops and hotels, before entering the stunning Langtang Valley. Nestled just south of the Tibetan border, Langtang is surrounded by the Himalayan range to the north and a lower range to the south. The valley, designated as Nepal's first Himalayan National Park in 1971, is home to the Tamang people, whose culture and practices are strongly influenced by Tibetan traditions. According to local legend, a lama following a runaway yak discovered the valley, which is reflected in the valley’s name—‘Lang’ meaning yak, and ‘Teng’ meaning to follow in Tibetan.

Though relatively close to Kathmandu, Langtang remains less crowded compared to the Everest and Annapurna regions, offering a more serene trekking experience. The trek features stunning alpine scenery and an opportunity to immerse in the local Tamang culture. For those seeking an extended adventure, the trek can be easily combined with the Gosainkunda Trek. Given the rough road conditions, a 4WD transport to and from Syabrubesi is recommended, with costs around US$200 each way, which can be shared by up to 5 people. The best trekking seasons are from September to late December and February to late June.
