The Annapurna Sanctuary trek, also known as the Annapurna Base Camp trek, is a renowned adventure among trekkers. This trek offers stunning views of the principal peaks in the western Annapurna Himal, including Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, and Machhapuchhre. The route leads into a spectacular glacial basin surrounded by towering mountains, creating an unforgettable experience for nature enthusiasts.

The trek begins at the Modi Khola river and ascends through lush forests and charming villages, ultimately reaching the Annapurna Sanctuary. This high-altitude amphitheater, about 10 miles in diameter, features a deep glacier-covered center that adds to its dramatic beauty. Trekkers can explore diverse landscapes while enjoying the rich culture of the local Gurung communities along the way.

Itinerary

  • Day 1
    Arrival in Kathmandu: Upon arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, transfer to your hotel. A briefing will follow regarding trekking formalities and itinerary. Depending on your arrival time, you may visit nearby sanctuaries or rest.
  • Day 2
    Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley: Enjoy a half-day tour of UNESCO sites in Bhaktapur and Kathmandu, exploring ancient temples and shrines. Afterward, you can explore on your own or relax while trekking permits are finalized. In the evening, savor a traditional Nepali dinner.
  • Day 3
    Kathmandu to Pokhara: Travel to Pokhara by flight or drive, the gateway for your trek. Overnight in Pokhara. Note: Depending on travel time, we may depart for the trek a day earlier.
  • Day 4
    Pokhara to Tikhe Dhungha (1525m): After breakfast, our guide will pick you up for a short drive to Nayapul. Begin trekking to Birethanti and continue to Tirkhe Dhunga, enjoying the scenic views along the way (approx. 4:30 hrs).
  • Day 5
    Trek to Ghorepani (2750m): Trek through rhododendron and oak forests, crossing streams before reaching Nangethanti for lunch. Continue to Ghorepani, enjoying the beautiful landscapes (approx. 5:30 hrs).
  • Day 6
    Ghorepani to Poon Hill to Tadapani (2520m): Start early for a sunrise hike to Poon Hill for stunning views of the Himalayas. Return to Ghorepani for breakfast before trekking to Tadapani through picturesque forests (approx. 6 hrs).
  • Day 7
    Tadapani to Chhomrong (2210m): Descend from Tadapani with views of the upper Modi valley before ascending to Chhomrong, the last permanent settlement in the valley (approx. 5 hrs).
  • Day 8
    Chhomrong to Doban (2540m): Descend to Chhomrong Khola and climb towards Sinuwa and Kuldi Ghar before entering the upper Modi Khola valley, continuing through forests to Doban (approx. 6 hrs).
  • Day 9
    Doban to Deurali (3170m): Climb past Himalayan Hotel and Hinko Cave before reaching Deurali, where you may spot wildlife like deer and enjoy views of Machhapuchhare (approx. 5:30 hrs).
  • Day 10
    Deurali to Annapurna Base Camp: Trek past Machhapuchhare Base Camp to Annapurna Base Camp, surrounded by majestic peaks in the Annapurna Sanctuary (approx. 5:30 hrs).
  • Day 11
    Annapurna Base Camp descend to Sinuwa: Return trek to Sinuwa is easier as most of it is downhill (approx. 5 hrs).
  • Day 12
    Sinuwa to Ghandrung (1940m): Continue from Sinuwa through Chhomrong and descend through forests until reaching Ghandruk, a Gurung village known for its culture and stunning mountain views (approx. 4:30 hrs).
  • Day 13
    Trek to Birethanti, Naya Pul; then drive to Pokhara: From Ghandruk, trek downhill to Nayapul where your trek ends. Drive back to Pokhara for an overnight stay (approx. 4 hrs).
  • Day 14
    Fly back from Pokhara to Kathmandu: Return by early morning flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu and stay overnight at a hotel.
  • Day 15
    Departure from Kathmandu: Depart from Kathmandu. Note that the itinerary is subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
